Planet Word Museum
Wedding venue in Washington, District of Columbia

About Planet Word Museum
Planet Word Museum occupies the historic Franklin School at 13th and K Streets in downtown Washington, D.C. The red-brick building, designed by Adolf Cluss and opened in 1869, has a mansard roof and overlooks Franklin Square. Its private-event spaces are the Bloomberg Philanthropies Great Hall, a 22-foot-high room with 14-foot windows, trompe l'oeil frescoes and a historic proscenium arch, anchored by a 5,000-LED globe that rises as a chandelier; the Mansard Room, with original 19th-century beams, wood floors and frescoed walls, configurable for dinners, performances, meetings or receptions; and the Rooftop Terrace, an outdoor space with views across Franklin Square suited to pre-dinner cocktails, dessert or sunset receptions, included with any Mansard Room booking. The ground-level AT&T Plaza just off K Street can be combined with the 150-seat Friedman Family Auditorium, which has its own entrance, a dedicated AV booth and a green room, for pre- or post-performance receptions. The Welcome Lobby can serve as a gathering or cocktail space, with its welcome desks doubling as bars, and can be joined to the plaza, the auditorium or the Great Hall for larger events. Spaces offer Wi-Fi and built-in AV; the Mansard Room includes a 165-inch video wall and wireless microphones. Event bookings are made by request form with at least 21 days of lead time, and the museum does not host children's birthday parties, fundraising events or political campaign events. Full museum buyouts are offered, and some third-floor galleries may close on days with private events. The on-site restaurant on the lower level lists catering and private events. Street parking is limited nearby, with garages within walking distance, and there is no on-site parking for private cars or buses. The building is accessible, with elevators on all floors.
