About The Shop DSM Event Center

The Shop DSM Event Center is a multi-level event venue in downtown Des Moines, in a building formerly used as the Des Moines Fire Department’s maintenance and repair shop. Its three rentable spaces—the Main Hall, Rooftop, and Basement Lounge—are included with each rental. Weddings can use the Rooftop for an outdoor ceremony, the Main Hall for a reception, and the Basement Lounge for drinks; the Main Hall is also an indoor ceremony option in case of rain. The Rooftop accommodates up to 115 guests, the Main Hall seats about 200 for dinner or accommodates up to 315 for a standing cocktail reception, and the Basement Lounge has a full capacity of 120, including table seating for about 50 and lounge seating for about 30. The venue includes a wedding suite with two private bathrooms, a vanity, refrigerator, and sitting area, plus a main-level catering space with an ice maker. Bars are located on all three levels, with bartenders and personalized bar menus available through the venue; outside alcohol is not allowed. Outside catering from a licensed caterer is permitted. Amenities include guest Wi-Fi, a projector and screen, microphone, elevator access to all floors, and free parking in a nearby garage on nights and weekends, plus an always-free lot to the southeast. Tables and chairs are available, and optional setup, linens, and uplighting are offered for additional fees.
