The Gretna Historical Society’s 209 Lafayette Street museum complex includes a historic blacksmith shop used for the Society’s annual Valentine’s Day wedding and vow-renewal ceremonies. The ceremony experience has included an officiant, a bagpiper escort, a blacksmith’s anvil tradition, a professional wedding photograph, and a City of Gretna wedding proclamation. The William D. White House, an 1845 Creole cottage in the blacksmith shop’s front yard, is available to rent for receptions and other social events. Renovated as an event space, the house has an updated kitchen, an indoor bar area, and an expanded rear patio.
