About Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The Spindletop Boomtown Museum is on the Lamar University campus in Beaumont, Texas. It re-creates the early twentieth-century oil boomtown around Spindletop Hill, where the Lucas Gusher blew in on January 10, 1901. The grounds include 15 re-created boomtown buildings with period furnishings, and the pink granite monument that once stood near the gusher site was moved to the museum. Guests can tour the exhibit buildings, and much of the complex is wheelchair accessible, with benches on the porches of several buildings. A gift shop sells Spindletop souvenirs and local goods. For private events the museum offers three spaces: the Log Cabin Saloon, seated for 28 or standing for 50 and suited to small receptions and parties; Hamill Square, an outdoor area of about 4,500 square feet with a maximum capacity of 500; and the Caroline Room, about 335 square feet with theater seating for 50, workshop seating for 20, or lunch and dinner seating for 36, which includes complimentary Wi-Fi and a serving kitchen. The facilities are offered for birthday parties, weddings, dinners and receptions. A Full Museum Package, priced at $1,500 for four hours, includes all three spaces and lets guests tour the museum and grounds at no extra charge. Rentals are available Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Rental fees cover the event time, setup and takedown time, admission for guests, and cleanup. Catering, food and beverages, linens, tents, canopies, decorations and extra restrooms for events of 200 or more attendees are not included. Food and drink may not be served from the saloon bar.

Pricing note

Full Museum Package (Log Cabin Saloon, Caroline Room and Hamill Square) is $1,500 for four hours, with additional hours at $200 each under that package. Outside the package, additional rental time may be purchased at $50–$100 per hour, and no per-room rental rate is published. The rental fee does not include catering, food or beverages. A 50% non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of booking, and the balance is due three days before the event. A refundable damage deposit is also required for the full package. Discounts are offered for full-day and multi-day events and for Lamar University students, faculty and staff.
