About Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library occupies a 15-acre complex in Huntsville, Texas, on land that Sam Houston and his family owned from 1847 to 1858. The grounds include the museum building, the Woodland Home, the Steamboat House, several 19th-century log cabins, and a replica of the Houston kitchen, set in a park-like landscape with picnic tables scattered throughout. The museum permits wedding ceremonies in its facilities, and receptions may take place under its standard rental policies. Rental space is arranged through the museum's rental coordinator. The Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center, at 1402 19th Street on the same complex, offers rental options upstairs and the lower-level W.S. Gibbs Conference Hall. Indoor rooms are rented individually, and the museum supplies tables and chairs for indoor events. Events on the grounds are arranged by request. Limited parking is included with facility rentals, with more on 19th Street after 5 p.m.
