The Maverick Carter House is a three-story limestone Richardsonian Romanesque house built in 1893 on Taylor Street in downtown San Antonio, a few yards from the River Walk and directly adjacent to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. The home retains its original family furnishings and is a Texas Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Private events can use both the interior and the grounds. Inside, the house holds up to about 100 guests for a standing cocktail event or about 75 seated at tables and chairs. The grounds include a landscaped front area and an expansive back area suited to tenting, with outdoor capacity of 250 or more seated and roughly 500 to 600 with a mix of seating and standing. The renovated carriage house in the backyard can be rented separately, added to the grounds, or used as a catering prep space. Events include cocktail parties, luncheons, dinners, fundraisers and corporate meetings, held inside or on the grounds. The venue does not supply tables or chairs, requires caterers to meet with staff and carry liability insurance, and is a smoke-free property. Rental proceeds support the Aline B. Carter Foundation, which stewards the home.
