About Lightship LV-87 (Ambrose)
The 1907 lightship LV-87, known as Ambrose, is a National Historic Landmark and National Register-listed vessel moored at Pier 16 in the South Street Seaport Historic District of Lower Manhattan. Built as a floating lighthouse, she marked the entrance to the Ambrose Channel from December 1908 until 1932. Visitors can take a guided tour of her multiple decks, which show the living and working spaces of the sailors who staffed her and the equipment that kept her on station and visible to ships. The lightship is also offered for private charter and event rentals, giving hosts a historic maritime setting on the waterfront at Pier 16.
