Friends Meeting of Washington
Wedding venue in Washington, District of Columbia
About Friends Meeting of Washington
Friends Meeting of Washington is a historic Quaker meeting house and event venue in the Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District, near Dupont Circle and Kalorama Heights. The connected campus includes the Meeting House, Quaker House, Carriage House, indoor event rooms and gardens. A 2019 renovation connected the buildings with a corridor and elevator and added a glass entrance lobby. The indoor and outdoor spaces support wedding ceremonies, receptions and other gatherings; couples of all faiths, traditions, genders and orientations are welcome, and couples may select an officiant authorized to perform marriages in the District of Columbia. The Meeting Room provides an indoor ceremony setting with approximately 300 bench seats, with 200 recommended for visibility; food and drink other than water are not allowed. The Assembly Room accommodates seated dinners for up to 96, 60–70 with a dance floor, or standing receptions for up to 125. The Quaker House Living Room seats up to 40 for a ceremony and 32 for a seated reception, or accommodates up to 50 standing. Garden configurations provide additional outdoor options: the upper west gardens accommodate up to 100 banquet-style or 120 theater-style or standing; the lower west gardens accommodate up to 150 banquet-style or approximately 190 theater-style or standing, depending on tent setup. The east gardens and terrace are suited to smaller receptions and event activities; a published capacity is not provided for them. Wedding packages include an event staff member, event-team support, a limited supply of tables and chairs, Wi-Fi, and audiovisual equipment when reserved in advance. Ceremony packages include a one-hour rehearsal; kitchen or kitchenette access is included with packages that include reception space. Couples arrange catering and serving staff separately, and may need to arrange tenting or an indoor weather backup at additional cost. Beer, wine and champagne require prior approval and compliance with DC licensing requirements; spirits and liquor are not allowed. Gardens close to guests at 10 p.m., and loud music generally must remain indoors. The campus has solar panels, a green roof, renewable cork flooring in several large rooms, composting and native gardens that help manage stormwater. The venue has no on-site parking; nearby street parking is limited, and guests are encouraged to use garages, rideshare, public transit or nearby bicycle facilities.
