About Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park

The Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park is a campus at 1417 Thames Street in Fells Point, Baltimore, that serves as the headquarters of the Living Classrooms Foundation and as a national heritage site. The park preserves one of the city's oldest existing waterfront industrial buildings and interprets the contributions of African Americans to Baltimore's maritime industry. The Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Museum is open to the public and covers Frederick Douglass's years in Baltimore as an enslaved child and young man, the life of Isaac Myers, the founding of the Chesapeake Marine Railway and Dry Dock Company, and the African American community of Baltimore in the 1800s. The third-floor Bearman Gallery presents a rotating exhibition of local African American artists. The campus lists weddings among the events it hosts, and Ampersea, a full-service restaurant, operates at the waterfront site as a partner of Living Classrooms.
