About Dry Creek Historical Society

The Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead sits in the foothills north of Boise, about 15 minutes from downtown, on a two-acre property along Dry Creek. The historic site includes seven farm buildings: a farmhouse, a detached red cookhouse and spring house, a root cellar, a woodshed, a saddle shed, a granary, and a horse barn. The farmstead has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2006. The Historic Schick Barn is available for rental for weddings and meetings. It has a standing capacity of 60 people. Food and beverages are not permitted inside the barn, and the barn has no heater, so the recommended rental months are May through September. The farmstead grounds are also available for rental. Rentals are limited to DCHS Family or Lifetime members, and prospective renters submit an inquiry form to receive feasibility and cost details. The grounds include gardens planted to reflect the Schick-era period, a medicinal garden, and a small working farm with goats and chickens. The farmstead is open to the public on Saturdays from May through September, 12:30 to 4:30 pm, at no cost, with donations welcome.
