About Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute sits in the Historic Civil Rights District of Birmingham, Alabama, with Kelly Ingram Park, Sixteenth Street Baptist Church and the A.G. Gaston Motel in its surroundings. Four spaces are available for event rental. The Rotunda is a domed, circular room in the main entrance that can be rented only in the evening for standing receptions of up to 200 guests, adjacent to the Odessa Woolfolk Gallery. The Woolfolk Gallery, which mainly hosts rotating exhibitions and has limited availability, can accommodate a seated dinner for up to 100 or a theatre-style event for up to 150. The Abraham Woods Community Meeting Room seats 54 or holds 80 standing and is wheelchair accessible. A Lecture Room with a classroom layout seats up to 24. Rentals are generally booked Tuesday through Saturday, with start times no earlier than 9:00 AM and end times no later than 9:00 PM; the Institute is closed Sundays and Mondays. Food and drink must be prepared and served by a pre-approved caterer, and a caterer may provide alcohol with a meal or an open bar under its contract. Free parking, including accessible spaces, is available behind the building, and the facility is fully accessible with ramps throughout.
