How to find a florist (and what to ask on the first call)

Bring a clear visual brief and budget. Confirm scope, substitutions, setup and the complete price.

Use the first call to find out whether the florist can deliver your priorities, within the actual venue, access window and budget.

Bring a useful brief

  • Your date, venue, rough guest count and table plan, palette, budget range and the items you want supplied.
  • A few reference photos, with a note explaining the shape, scale, colors or texture you like. Include any flowers, fragrances or materials you need to avoid.

Ask about the full job

  • Minimum spend, design fees, delivery, setup, room moves, rentals, collection and damage or breakage charges.
  • Which flowers are likely to be available, what substitutions need approval, and what matters most if the preferred stems are unavailable.
  • Who moves ceremony pieces, whether they fit the reception containers, and whether the move needs extra staff or access.
  • Comparable complete weddings, a written itemized proposal, payment terms and a backup contact.

Local or seasonal flowers are not automatically cheaper or longer lasting. Ask about the actual supply, variety, preparation and conditions for your date.

Keep the agreed brief and quantities with the supplier proposal. A visual concept is inspiration, not a confirmed order, exact flower availability or an agreed price.
